2010 Grant Request Form

2008 Grants Given:

Barron County Grant Dollars

This is a follow-up to the grant that the Barron County Fair Board received in 2008 for purchasing portable stalls to be used in the 4-H horse barn and at other events that take place at the fair grounds.  The money that you provided, along with a $1,000 matching funds from the 4-H Horse Project, purchased 16 portable stalls.

The check arrived at fair time last year, so I was unable to get a picture of the sign recognizing the Equine Foundation’s donation in 2008.  At this year’s fair, I had one of our 4-H Horse Project training centers (Red Cedar Riders- Chetek) pose in front of the sign. As you can see, this center had a very productive fair!

The Chetek group is one of 6 training centers for the 4-H Horse Project.
The Barron County Fair had many great improvements this year.  The Fair association received a 20 year interest free loan to build a new hog/sheep barn, cover the dairy show ring and build a new horse barn.  These all made a great improvement to the fair!   The 4-H Horse Project also added a pavilion next to the horse show ring providing rain and sun protection to spectators.

When you are up in the Barron County area, please stop by and see our fair grounds.

Thank you again for the donation of $2,000!!!

Diane Sackett of the WSHC Equine Foundation, Dodge County Boots and Saddle Club Members: Harry Vosekuil-Treasurer, Maily Kocinski- Halloween Horse Parade Coordinator, Sandy Vosekuil and Amanda Jones.

The Dodge County Boots and Saddle Club earned almost $3,000 through the Halloween Horse Parade held in Beaver Dam on October 28, 2007. The first annual event was a huge success! Money earned will be used to provide training for men and women of police and fire departments of parade participants. They will learn how to handle horses in emergency situations.

“We basically want them to know how to safely approach a frightened horse, put a halter on them, lead them to safety and tie them up,” said Kocinski. The Dodge County Boots and Saddle Club made a donation of $2,785.95 to the WSHC Equine Foundation, led by president Lee Sackett of Burnett, Wisconsin, in order to carry out the training in 2008. We are thankful for their expertise and ability to provide quality training sessions to increase the safety of our horses.

The Wisconsin State Horse Council Equine Foundation was created to better serve Wisconsin's growing equestrian community and to help that community realize its fullest potential. The Foundation is a tax exempt, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and as such allows individuals to make tax-deductible contributions to support Wisconsin equine projects. The mission of the Equine Foundation is to support Wisconsin's expanding equestrian community by funding educational initiatives, equine research, trail development and youth scholarship and participation.

Helping horses in emergency situations is important to all equine owners. The success of the fund raising parade continues to grow even after it is over. Because of the large number of interested participants and spectators, the Wisconsin State Horse Council will be heading the parade in 2008, led by President Gene Tauber. We are currently in the process of negotiating a parade route and larger staging area in Beaver Dam for the same day as trick-or-treating in October. Spectators loved the costumed riders, and riders loved showing off their animals while helping fund an important and necessary cause.

Thank you again to all who supported the first annual Halloween Horse Parade!

Castle Rock Trail Group Receives Funds from WSHCEF

Mary Harris, Don Smith, Corky Smith, Walt Furseth (President)

WSHC Equine Foundation Board members Don and Corky Smith were giving out late Christmas presents this year. On January 13th, 2007, they attended the Castle Rock Trail Group Christmas Party and started the gift exchange by presenting a check for $1,500 to them to purchase a trailbrusher powered by an ATV. The group was pleasantly surprised and said the WSHC Equine Foundation had the best present! The equipment will be used to maintain the trails that so many of us enjoy on the Castle Rock trail system.
