The WSHC Equine Foundation Second Annual Halter & Performance Open All Breed Horse Show and Futurities

On October 7 and 8, 2006, the Wisconsin State Horse Council Equine Foundation held its Second Annual Halter & Performance Open All Breed Horse Show and Futurities. The WSHC Equine Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and help grow Wisconsin 's expanding horse community by funding educational initiatives, equine research, equine facilities, trail development, youth scholarships and participation.

The first indication I had that this show would be such a delightful success was on my drive up to Hartland Stables at Custer , Wisconsin . My trip to the show stared in the dark, but I had the pleasure of watching the sun rise over the Central Wisconsin farm fields. The air was crisp and clear as the sky filled with the warm glow of colors as the sun rose above the horizon to warm the day. The show that followed was filled with the same richness of color and warmth of people.

We had great support from both individual volunteers and businesses to help make this show a success. It was heart-warming to see the wide range of people who came to work, to participate in the show, or just to watch and learn. Many of our participants and spectators chose to camp over night and take advantage of Hartland Stables facilities and the fine shirt sleeve weather.

It was a delight watching our judges Ed Stern, Denise Nechvatal, and Sandy Vossekuil--”Judge of the Year,” evaluate the horses and horsemanship. A wide variety of horses were shown in the many classes. The classes were nicely sized with grade school children to retired people competing and sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the equine industry. The following is a list of our winners:
